The new national programme sees the current six Challenges and some Activity badges being discontinued in September: with a new set of seven Challenges, some new Activity badges and existing Activity badges being revised. Three of the seven challenges are age related to be completed in the last two or three terms in Cubs.

For our Cub Pack the current two year cycle of Activity badges will continue. The main effect is on some of the camps:-

May camp up until now has had a challenge and badge for year 1 and year 2, these are being discontinued. So Year 2 will now complete the new Outdoor Challenge whilst year 1 will start acquiring camp skills with the artist badge.

The Panda camp in September will continue for the older Cubs but it now includes recycling which was the format for a sleepover for the younger Cubs. A sleepover will still be held based on the Disability Badge.

Currently a dual programme is being run with Cubs due to move up to Scouts by December 2015 remaining on the ‘old’ programme: to give them the opportunity to complete all the requirements for the Chief Scout’s Silver Award; assuming they attend the appropriate meetings and complete a bit at home.

Whilst those who will be staying in the Cub Pack have had the new programme back dated to the start of this year with new personal records and new ‘tick sheets’ to record their progress with the new challenges and some of the activity badges.

Chief Scout’s Silver Award

The Chief Scout’s Silver Award requires the seven Challenges and six activity badges being completed.

Full details of the Cub Scout badges and awards can be found here and details of the individual Challenge Awards can be found by clicking on the relevant badge above.
The new programme will be re-viewed during the year, especially the camp changes above to assess their effectiveness.
Please see the GSL if you have any queries or concerns about how it will affect your son.
